Rock Star Economics 101

Q: A Ghanaian government official, earning $350 a month, receives a $25,000 government loan payable over 3 and a half years. Explain how he pays off the loan.

A: He can't. Click your fingers and forgive it.

Franklin Cudjoe, head of Imani: The Centre for Humane Education, a think-tank based in Ghana, is a refreshing read on the age-old problem that is the African continent in general. Cynical about the self-appointed high-profile care-workers of the West, yet hopeful that through limited government, the free market (ie. not a protectionist plagued one) and the rule of law, Africa can see a brighter day.

He has been getting more visibility of late, particularly in Europe with think-tanks and in the press. Read about Imani on their website and Franklin on his blog.
